From January 1, 2018, tourist taxes were introduced in Greece, which are paid in cash directly at the accommodation facility. It was introduced by Act No. 4389/2016 and is subject to accommodation providers, not travel agencies. The fee varies depending on the type of accommodation, from € 0.50 per room per night.

According to this law, accommodation users (tourists) are obliged to pay tax for overnight stays. The amount of this tax depends on the category of accommodation.

Tourist tax is calculated per room per night, not per person.

This tourist tax is payable on arrival.

This tax is not included in the price of accommodation.

The amount of the tourist tax in each category:

•    apartments and studios of all categories: 0,50 € per room per night
• * star hotels: 0,50 € per room per night
• ** star hotels: 0,50 € per room per night
• *** star hotels: 1,50 € per room per night
• **** star hotels: 3,00 € per room per night
• ***** star hotels: 4,00 € per room per night
