How to get to the island by plane

Traveling by air is the fastest way to get to Thassos. The island does not have its own airport (it is too small for that), but thanks to its location it is easily accessible from several airports. Airports near the island of Thassos

The nearest airport is Kavala. Kavala Airport Regular flights from many European airports land at Kavala Airport during the summer season. Upon arrival, you must reach the port of Keramoti, where ferries depart for Thassos. This is no science, since the airport is located in the Chrissoupolis area, which is about 12 km from Keramoti, to transfer from the airport to the port of Keramoti you can use taxi services (the station is right next to the arrival hall), the price of a taxi from the airport to The port of Keramoti is up to 20-25 euros and the driver will take you directly to the ferry.

The second airport nearby is Thessaloniki Airport. Thessaloniki Airport receives scheduled flights from many European countries all year round. From this airport, transport to Thassos is a bit trickier, but don't worry.

So how from the airport in Thessaloniki to Thassos. You have a choice either to take a taxi or a KTEL bus or a combination.

Taxi:  A taxi will take you directly to the port of Kavala or Keramoti directly from the airport arrival hall. The road is about 150 km long and costs about 140 euros per car (max. 4 people). KTEL Bus: I honestly would not recommend this option. Public transport in Thessaloniki, when the bus passes through the whole city, it is more a punishment to get only from the airport to the main bus station.

Combined Taxi/Bus: very affordable and most often used for many of our tourists. So how to do it. The first step is a taxi from the airport to the main bus station. Taxi recommend you book in advance. Example here. The driver will then be waiting for you directly at the exit of the airport lobby and take you to the main bus station. Taxi costs 20-25 euros. Second step. Tickets to Kavala need to be bought at the bus station. Modern buses with air conditioning run every day during the day, the timetable can be found here. The trip will cost you 15 euros per person and in about 2 hours you will be in the port city of Kavala. The bus stop in Kavala is right next to the port (approx. 200m).

ATTENTION! Please note that the last ferry from Kavala to Thassos (Skala Prinos) departs at 5:30PM. If your arrival in Thessaloniki is in the afternoon and you know that you will not be able to catch the last ferry, it is better to count on it and book your accommodation in Thassos from the next day and stay in Kavala in one of the many hotels and sail to Thassos the next morning. the ferry departs at 9:15AM). Kavala is a beautiful city with many monuments and it is definitely worth staying there one day. Accommodation in Kavala next to the port can be booked in advance, for example on Booking.com at a price from 60 euros (4 bed room / night), 2 bed and for 35-40 euros.

The second option is to use the bus (or taxi) and continue from Kavala for another 30 km to the port of Keramoti. From here, ferries depart for Thassos until 9:30PM.
